On Marriage
You were born together, and together you shall be evermore. You shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But, let there be spaces in your togetherness. Love one another but make not a bond of love, let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each others cup, but drink not from one cup. Sing and dance together, but let each one of you be alone. Even as the strings of the lute are alone, they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each others keeping. For only the hand of life can contain your hearts. And stand together, but not too near together. For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the mighty oak and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.
- Kahlil Gibran
On Time You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable. You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons. Of time you would make a stream upon whose banks you would sit and watch its flowing. Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness, And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream. But if in your thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all other seasons, And let TODAY embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing.
- Kahlil Gibran
You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked through understanding. There are those who give with pain, and that pain is their baptism. There are those who give with joy and that joy is their reward. And there are those who give and know not pain, nor do they seek joy. Through the hands of such as these, God speaks, and behind THEIR eyes HE smiles upon the earth !
Kahlil Gibran
